Portflow Installation on Brightspace (D2L) - manual
This article describes the manual installation process for Portflow in Brightspace. For the new installation method via Apps, click here.
For this installation, Administrator or Super Administrator permissions in Brightspace at the Organization level are required.
This manual describes the installation, the information that is required by Drieam to complete the installation, and the strongly recommended adjustments to Brightspace for an optimal experience of Portflow.
Installation
I. Register the Tool

Copy all Registration details and send them over to Drieam.

II. Register the Deployment
Go toĀ Admin ToolsĀ āĀ External Learning ToolsĀ āĀ LTI Advantage
ClickĀ New Deployment
Select the toolĀ PortflowĀ (tool name), the rest should be filled out automatically
Under security settings, check:
Org Unit Information
User information (and all descendants)
Link information (and all descendants)
Classlist including users not known to this deployment
UnderĀ Make tool available to, add theĀ OrganizationĀ andĀ All descendantsĀ
(even if it will be just available to 1 department)
ClickĀ Create Deployment
Communicate theĀ Deployment IdĀ with Drieam.

III. Create an OAuth App

IV. Create Links
Weāll create 2 links to integrate Portflow in Brightspace, a launching link and an insert stuff link to submit Portflow snapshots in assignments.

V. Add Portflow to the nav bar
Make Portflow available to your users. As Portflow is a course-overarching app, we encourage adding Portflow to all used nav bars, including the homepage navbar.

Copy the generated URL (e.g.

This is the URL you see when Portflow has been opened from the navigation menu.Default language and optionally secondary language(s) ā see below.
š Available languages in Portflow
The default language for Portflow has to be set by Drieam. This is the language that will be shown to users who have their Brightspace account set to any language other than the supported languages. Let Drieam know what your primary (default) language and secondary language(s) should be.Ā This cannot be changed.

Recommended Adjustments to Brightspace
Adust these settings in Brightspace for an optimal experience with Portflow.
A. Adjust assignment end date settings
This will make sure students can import their submissions into Portflow after the deadline has passed.
Navigate toĀ Config Variable Browser āĀ Tools ā Dropbox āĀ EndDateDefaultType
AtĀ Override values, chooseĀ visible with submission restrictedĀ for the Org unit which will use Portflow. Ā
If you chooseĀ 'visible with access restricted'Ā or 'hidden', students are not able to import their submitted assignments into Portflow once the deadline has passed.

B. Adjust email access
This will make it possible to send email notifications to users that have not yet launched Portflow, e.g. when distributing Portflow templates.

AtĀ Override values, chooseĀ On for the Org unitĀ (e.g. 6606)Ā which will use Portflow.

C. OpenBadges Support
Brightspace includes support for OpenBadges compatible badges, but this is not enabled by default. For Portflow to be able to embed badges issued in Brightspace, a configuration needs to be changed in Brightspace. Follow these steps to enable this feature in Brightspace.
